So You Want to Audition
First of all, that’s terrific! Good for you!
Mudds auditions vary on how they are run from show to show, Director to Director. You should always make sure to read the instructions for the specific show all the way through. There is nothing worse than arriving at an audition and finding out you were supposed to have sheet music, a monologue or a song prepared, that you missed in the instructions.
Most Mudds adult performances work on a scheduled audition. You will be asked to contact the organizer to arrange for a time for your audition. Usually, the audition itself can range from bringing in a prepared song and/or monologue, learning a specific song either from the show or a similar piece of music, or possibly a reading from the show.
It’s important that you take the time to learn the piece to help vanquish any nerves you may be feeling.
There are generally 3-5 very nice people on the audition panel. These can include:
The Music Director
Others, at the Directors behest
Youth and children’s auditions can vary depending on the Director and the show. Again, the children may be asked to audition in much the same format as the adult auditions described above. However, in many cases, there may be a group audition which can be much less intimidating for children. Particularly those who have not had a great deal of experience auditioning.
Just remember, the Mudds endeavor to encourage and support all members of the community in all areas of theatre. If you have questions about the process or concerns, please contact the rehearsal organizer or any member of the Mudds board.
